THE MISSION HOUSE is a new concept and will eventually, be a facility for visiting teams of volunteers to stay while performing community service/church projects in Tulsa. This facility will have sleeping rooms, showers and restrooms, a well-equipped kitchen, a communal dining facility, recreation and lounging areas, a chapel for small worship services or simply time alone with God. We are also planning for a resource center with books, computers with internet access, board games, recreation equipment and ample off-street parking.
___Prior to the opening of our facility and as an adjunct after it is open, we will provide better access to information for Mission Teams through our website as well as periodic mailings to churches and service agencies. Through regular contact with the service agencies, we are equipped to make their needs and service opportunities known.
___The end result will be more volunteers for the service agencies and more assistance for those Tulsans who have needs. Additionally, we hope to make mission trips more productive and enjoyable for their participants, so that they leave Tulsa not only with a sense of having done good work, but with an appreciation for a community which welcomes them and values them and their good works.
___There are large unmet needs in the Tulsa Community Service Sector. Almost all of our non-profit agencies benefit from the services of volunteers. Traditionally underfunded, these agencies are almost constantly in need of more helping hands.
___Ironically, there are large groups of willing volunteers, looking for community service projects who either miss connecting with these agencies completely, or manage to make the connection only through happenstance. Once connected, they often have to suffer through their project in facilities that are less than satisfactory, on schedules that are frustrating, with poor communications, and an overall experience that leaves them feeling let down and unappreciated.
